Kickstart Joy | Za'atari Refugee Camp

2018 - Kickstart Joy and the Catalyst Foundation for Universal Education

In June of 2018 Kickstart Joy and the Catalyst Foundation for Universal Education invited me to join them on a trip to Jordan to document the work they are doing running soccer programs for children living in Syrian refugee camps. This video, which tells the stories of Ali Osama Al Wadi (13) and Laila Shukri Shwamrah (12), two kids who have been living in Za’atari Refugee Camp for over 5 years. They talk about their experience at the start of the war in Syria, what it’s like living in the refugee camp, and the role soccer plays in their lives today.

sameena | Life as an american muslim

2017 - Council on American Islamic Relations

From 2014 – 2016 the number of hate crimes targeting Muslims rose 584%. Sameena Usman, the Government Relations Coordinator for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, is one of those working hardest to change that trend. In fighting against discrimination, and for equal rights for Muslims, Usman puts her own security at risk. But it’s a sacrifice she says is, “absolutely worth it.” I directed, filmed, and edited this video.

2017 - The Medical Clown Project

The halls of a hospital don’t typically ring out with the sounds of ukuleles, applause, and laughter. Hospital rooms aren’t usually where you find dancing goblins, cuddly panthers, and bubbles. But The Medical Clown Project, which provides therapeutic medical clowning as an integrated component of care for adult and pediatric patients, is changing that. I directed, filmed, & edited this video highlighting the work of the Medical Clown Project.
